About Us

Our Journey

My name is Ed Vest and I live in my grandparents former old farm house with my wife Mary, We have 2 sons that are 30 and 28 years old. Our youngest son is autistic and I could write a book about the trials we have endured as a family! Mary grew up on a hog farm, and I grew up next door to where we have lived for the past 30 years. Vestlane Farms was founded by my father, as we lived down a long lane, and it was his farm name while raising Guernsey and registered Polled Hereford cattle. We have pictures of me leading bulls that weighed a ton when I was 3 years old. Growing up consisted of hard work which included putting up and hauling hay. In those days, we put up thousands of square bales every year.

We also cut thistles, cleaned out barns, picked up rocks, plowed and disced fields for our own crops, built fence, etc. We didn't have fancy equipment and tried to maintain what we had. Cattle were gathered by horseback and we sold seedstock at registered sales. We had annual production sales on the farm and also consigned to performance tested bull sales and other breed association sales. I was president of our local FFA chapter and attended Missouri State University, receiving a degree in Agricultural Education.

My father suffered some health problems, so Mary and I made it a priority to move back closer to family. He eventually passed away, and I was able to procure part of the farm. I taught Agricultural Education for 10 years, and recently retired from education after 18 years in administration. Before my father passed away, we had started focusing on registered Simmental Cattle, I have since added Sim-Angus and Angus to our herd. I have recently served 2 years as the president of the Missouri Simmental Association and am currently the vice-president of the Polk County Cattlemen's Association. We want our cattle to thrive on the resources we have available and put an emphasis on quality. We sell show cattle, but primarily focus on selling bulls to those that make a living selling feeder calves. We market our cattle throughout the United States. We currently have started offering USDA inspected beef from our farm and can sell larger or smaller quantities to people in Southwest Missouri.
